BSS Sunny Ranking 2026

BSS Sunny Ranking 2026 has been sailed.

The expectations for the competition were high: the wind forecast was good and ice had been found. However, the ice at Lestijärvi proved to be too uneven for safe racing or even proper sailing. Therefore, we set out to inspect alternative areas we were aware of, and the final competition venue was selected as Emolahti in Pyhäsalmi.

Despite this, the weekend was fantastic with 10 races. On Saturday, four races were sailed in light wind, and in the last race the wind picked up, but the ice softened slightly, so it was decided to postpone the sixth race to Sunday.

On Sunday morning the wind was light, but after a short wait it increased. Five great races were completed. There were a few equipment damages due to the ice conditions.

The winner was P104 Wojciech Baranowski, second place went to L103 Timo Lehmuskallio, and third place was L601 John Winquist. Fourth place went to L112 Reko Suojanen.

Thanks to all sailors—this season was challenging. Let’s hope next season will be fantastic!

Special thanks to Vesa & Haye for serving as the race committee.

The new season starts now—be ready for week 46. See you on the ice!

Update 19.3.

BSS Sunny Ranking 2026 will be sailed at Lestijärvi. The ice has been confirmed this morning to be suitable for sailing and hard. The night was warm, but in the morning the ice was firm. There is a sailor on site who has been sailing on the ice area during the morning. The surface is “mandarin” ice, but hard.

For Friday, winds of approximately 5–8 m/s are expected and temperatures will drop below freezing overnight. A practice course will be set up on Friday.

On Saturday, the forecast shows 6–10 m/s winds and temperatures around zero overnight, so an excellent race day is expected.

Sunday’s forecast shows clearly lighter winds of 2–6 m/s, with slight frost overnight.

Update 18.3.
Good news: the ice was good today. Someone had also been skating on the ice today.

Tomorrow morning we will check the race area on the ice at Lestijärvi by sailing.
If it is okay, we will have a venue.

We will report tomorrow as soon as the area has been inspected.

The plan is to be sailing already on Friday if the ice area is suitable.

The next update will be provided no later than tomorrow,
in accordance with the notice of race.

Please register if you are planning to attend, thank you!

Update 17.3.

The situation is as follows: ice has been found.

The ice at Lestijärvi is dry and hard, but the information is not from a sailor. An alternative location is Vaala; the situation there today is unknown, but it looks promising.

The weather for Lestijärvi is promising. Overnight frost is forecast, so we believe the ice will remain in good condition until around 13:00–14:00.

The number of registrations is now concerning—does everyone already have summer on their mind? Or shall we wrap up the season properly in great weather and good company? If the number of registrations remains below 15 sailors, we will not attempt to organize the races. So if you are planning to attend, please register—we need to know who is coming if the races are to take place.

Our goal is to have a sailor on the ice by Thursday. To make this possible, we need to know the number of participants. The next update will be tomorrow evening.

15.3. Update

Dear ice sailors,

The weather is warm, as you have surely noticed. The weather forecasts show a small glimmer of hope, so please be ready.

The plan is to look for ice as far south as possible (lakes in Western and Southern Finland), so please stay prepared. We are also monitoring the situation at Lestijärvi, where overnight frost is forecast during the week and into the weekend.

The next update will be on Tuesday evening.

DN Superviikonloppu – Super Weekend

DN Finland kutsuu kaikki lajista kiinnostuneet kokeilemaan jääpurjehdusta 14.-15.3. 2026

Lauantaina 14.3. Lajiesittely ja try-out -päivä. Kerrotaan mistä kyse ja tutustutaan skeneen, lajiin ja kalustoon ja tietenkin kokeillaan jääpurrella purjehtimista.

Sunnuntaina 15.3. Harjoituskilpailu. Jos on turvalliset ja sopivat olosuhteet, aloitteilijallakin saattaa olla mahdollisuus osallistua harjoituskilpailuun. Joka tapauksessa voi seurata läheltä miten jääpursilla ajetaan kilpaa.

Lajin erityisominaisuus on äärimmäinen olosuhdeherkkyys. Jos ja kun meillä on viikonloppuna tapahtuma, niin tapahtumapaikka päätetään yleensä vasta torstai-iltana. Niin tässäkin tapauksessa. Tapahtuma järjestetään siellä missä on sopivat olosuhteet.

DN Finnish Nationals 2026

The Finnish DN Ice Sailing Championship was held this year in Hanko. The conditions promised a great weekend of racing, although the bright sunshine brought its own challenges as the wind forecast did not fully materialize. The regatta was sailed in light and at times very light winds.

Despite the tricky conditions, six races were completed. A slightly stronger breeze on the final day provided a fitting and enjoyable conclusion to the championship.

Teemu Rantanen (L137) won the regatta and secured the 2026 Finnish DN Ice Sailing Championship title, marking his fourth national championship victory. Darek Kardas (P13) finished second overall, while Gustav Lindén (S887) took third place.

In the Finnish Championship standings, the silver medal went to Oscar Lindell (L132) and the bronze medal to John Winqvist (L601).

Among the competitors was first-time DN regatta sailor Oskari “Okki” Muhonen, who finished an impressive 11th in his debut. Muhonen is a Finn class Junior and Senior World Champion.
